The NSW, Victorian and Australian governments have committed $558 million to the Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital project, one of the largest regional health projects currently underway in NSW and Victoria.

The new Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital will provide enhanced and expanded healthcare services in purpose-built facilities, supporting Albury, Wodonga, and Border communities now and into the future.

The project includes delivery of a substantial new hospital building at the existing Albury Hospital campus, along with upgrades to existing facilities to ensure the campus can grow and adapt to meet the region’s long-term healthcare needs.

It will also support the region’s growing population, introduce contemporary models of care, and improve connectivity across the Albury Hospital campus to create a more seamless and patient-centred experience.

The concept design for the new Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital project was released in August 2024, and shows three major new improvements to be built on the existing Albury Campus:

  • The 7-storey Clinical Services Building
  • The 2-storey Northeast Building
  • More car parking

From Friday, 10 October 2025 through to late 2026, the following changes will be in place to allow for the establishment of the Northeast Building construction area:

Parking
Patient and community parking is now available in three sections along the East Street verge, each with its own entrance. Please follow signage and park safely.

Pedestrian Access
Foot traffic is being redirected to new footpaths along East Street, ensuring safe and clear access to the hospital. A new pedestrian crossing will also be painted to guide pedestrians across the driveway entry on East Street.

Hospital Access
Access to the hospital (lower level) via the car park near the Northeast Building construction area will now be via a new pathway and ramp near Oasis Café. This route is designed to be safe and accessible for everyone. Please follow all posted signage.

Construction Zone Fencing
On Saturday, 11 October, fencing will be relocated to mark the new construction zone (see graphic). Please stay alert near this area and follow signage as necessary.

No Right Turn Exit onto East Street
To further improve road and pedestrian safety, from Monday, 13 October, vehicles exiting the car park can no longer turn right when exiting onto East Street

Traffic controllers will be stationed within the carpark entry to help guide vehicles and ensure efficient flow. Please follow their directions, and show kindness, respect and consideration when moving throughout the site; they’re here to support your safety.

To allow for the safe completion of minor demolition works required within the Northeast Building footprint, there will be changes to pedestrian access to the Albury Campus via the Northeast car park, as well as to the use of an available bike rack.

On Saturday, 30 August 2025, demolition of a nearby, non-structural brick wall will take place. Pedestrians accessing the hospital will be directed to enter via the external access door of the Oasis Cafe, and a nearby bike rack will be unavailable for use.

Usual pedestrian access to the Albury campus via this entrance, as well as use of the bike rack, will be restored early afternoon.

Oasis Cafe will remain open to all staff, patients and families during these works.

Traffic controllers will be onsite to guide staff, patients and visitors through the site, with priority always given to ambulance and emergency vehicles. Access to the Albury Campus will remain open, safe and supervised. Please ensure you follow the applicable signage.

Some visitor parking spaces will be affected during the Northeast Building works, and additional, alternate parking will be available along the verge of East Street.
